Since 1996, the maintenance of Alberta’s highways has been carried out by private contractors. Alberta Transportation’s maintenance contract inspectors monitor and review the contractor’s work to ensure it meets provincial standards.

We utilize a fleet of trucks and graders for snow removal on the hard surfaced roads in the subdivisions and hamlets through the County to ensure the roads safe for the public. Apart from the services mentioned above our summer work to maintain Red Deer County’s infrastructure also includes re-gravelling, drainage program, mowing, and pothole repair. Most of Red Deer’s infrastructure was built between 1950-1970 with a 50-60 year lifespan, which presents challenges and opportunities at this stage in the lifespan of the infrastructure.
